“There is a lot of confusing information about the GNU/Linux operating system, open source and free software, and related issues in the press today. Many of these technologies and concepts are difficult to understand because they deviate from the standard historical traditions of the software industry.”
Generating fear, uncertainty and doubt (FUD) is one of Microsoft’s specialties, especially when it comes to down on Linux.
One thing I just never understand is why anyone can say that Linux is cheaper than Windows for SMBs, let’s look at it, what apps do SMBs use? A word processor, a spreadsheet, a web browser, an email client or maybe some sort of groupware stuff like Microsoft Exchange or Kolab. This is basicly it for a basic office worker, and all of them can be provided by Linux free of charge, and is of course freely available.
