A new look!

A few days ago, I finally got around to publishing the article about FreeBSD jails, that I wrote late last year. However to make a HOWTO article, like this one properly readable on this site, I needed a new layout for my blog. The reason being that, the amount of space for the actual page content in the WordPress theme that I was using previously (Almost Spring by Becca Wei), was too small to fit the configuration file examples in the article. So I poked around at, and found the theme Classic Beauty by Ei Sabai Nyo. When I noticed that it was licensed under the GNU General Public License, I installed it, and liked it a lot, and it worked perfectly for my article on FreeBSD jails. I fixed a few bugs related to full W3C compliance, cleaned up the header bits and fixed a hard-coded path. I emailed the author all the changes, in the classic free software way, in case she was interested, as of writing I have not gotten a response.

Anyway, if you’re interested in FreeBSD, and don’t already know about the kick-ass jail feature, you might want to consider taking a look at my article titled Security, Process Isolation and Virtual Hosting with FreeBSD Jails.

Happy Hacking! 😀

The Creed of Apple

It seems to me that to the Apple fanboys, Apple is more than just a brand name, a series of products, or a company, judging by my observations and things I have been told, it seems to me than Apple is essentially a religion for these wackos.

Earlier today I was talking to a friend of mine about it, and came up with a little parody that I’m sure all the idiotic Apple fanboys would love:

“I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Steve and I testify that the Mac is the Messenger of Steve”.

If you got pissed off by that, don’t bother sending me hate mail, because you’ll end up in the spam folder of the mighty SpamAssassain! ;P

“I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.”

“CALGARY – Outspoken conservative commentator Ezra Levant will be before the Alberta Human Rights Commission Friday defending his former magazine’s 2006 publication of a series of Danish cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad.
Members of Calgary’s Muslim community were outraged when Levant’s now-defunct publication, the Western Standard, published the cartoons in February 2006, shortly after their initial appearance in a Danish newspaper led to rioting and protests around the world.”

If there’s anything in this world I am getting tired of, it’s crap like this! Just listen to these guys:

Syed Soharwardy, president of the Islamic Supreme Council of Canada, later filed a complaint against the Western Standard to the Alberta Human Rights Commission.”

If anybody deserve to be sued it’s these guys, for trying to trump freedom of speech! Who do they think they are? And why the hell do they file a complaint to a Human Rights Commission? That’s one of the most asinine things I’ve heard in my entire life! Nobody has any “right not to be offended”, they can just not listen to a given person, not read a certain paper or not look at a certain picture! It’s that simple. I could understand if the newspaper was making threats against Muslims and Islam, but I’m confident that they did not.

I’m sorry, but stuff like this just pisses me off, it’s like they’re trying to pervert the term “human rights” just because they can’t get to be right. Ugh, it’s like a child whining all-day because he/she aren’t allowed to get some get candy or something like that!!!
If you can’t accept that freedom of speech is an essential right in all genuinely free countries, then you shouldn’t reside in that country. If you believe that other people shouldn’t be able to say things you disagree with sort of person, go live in some country like China, Iran, Burma, North Korea or similar countries, with a totalitarian regimes that doesn’t allow freedom of speech.

4.0, the start of a new generation!

“The KDE Community is thrilled to announce the immediate availability of KDE 4.0. This significant release marks both the end of the long and intensive development cycle leading up to KDE 4.0 and the beginning of the KDE 4 era.”

And so it has begun! …. KDE 4, a new generation of what is, in my opinion, one of the most kick-ass desktop computing environments in history, has begun with the release of KDE 4.0!

Congratulations to the KDE developers! You guys do an awesome job keep it up! Don’t listen to the crackpots that don’t know what the hell they’re talking about! Do what’s right, because we in the community know that it is right.

Deconstructing Xbox 360 Security

Video recordings of the various presentations from the 24th Chaos Communication Congress are now available on the Internet. I immediately went and pulled down Why Silicon-Based Security is still that hard: Deconstructing Xbox 360 Security by Michael Steil and Felix Domke. In this presentation the Xbox 360’s security system is explained in details, plus various hacks against it. Using some of these hacks, Debian GNU/Linux is shown being run on the console. It was really amusing (Which the crowd attested to by cheering, laughing and applauding) when the Linux kernel boot-up messages first appeared on the big projector screen. I’ll admit, I was like “YEAH!!!!!” as well! Beautiful! And then at the end were that little Wii hack demonstration, which I talked about on new year’s eve (Wii homebrew … coming soon! 😀), which is always nice.

If you’re interested in security, console hacking or hacking in general, I highly recommend you go take a look at this presentation, which you can find, among many others, over on the CCC wiki:
Both torrents and direct downloads are available, I’d recommend saving people some bandwidth and using the torrents. Great stuff! 😀
