Seven weeks has passed, and my summer holidays are now over. I’m heading to a new school this year, I just started today. At first I was a little shocked, because I don’t know anyone in my new class from earlier school years, so this is just totally new to me, but I think it will all work out over time 😉
“Gentoo Installer Project lead Andrew Gaffney made an announcement this week about version 0.1 of GLI! This is a milestone in Gentoo’s history as it was installer-free before and the user had to do every step manually with the help of the Gentoo Handbook.”
I’ve been a fan of Gentoo Linux for a long time, if you like to have everything, and I mean literally everything, optimized for your computer, I can’t think of a better way than using Gentoo Linux. Once you get the thing installed, which until now is a scary task for people not comfortable on the commandline, it’s so easy to install something, it takes some time though, especially if you have an older computer, because Gentoo’s package manager, Portage, compiles everything from source. If you, like me, are a total geek, you should definitely try out Gentoo Linux, highly recommended.

Microsoft has axed pretty much every feature in Longhorn, now known as Vista, that was going to make it worth upgrading, as James R. Stoup points out in his article, Microsoft may soon be loosing major chunks of market share in the operating system business.
“For those who don’t know what The Scene is, it’s a show about the piracy underground were most of the pirated material on the net comes from, the show is available for download like Systm.”
“The Scene” is a pretty damn good show, and I must admit that this new episode actually made my heart beat a little during the show 😛
It’s a great show, definitely worth taking a look at. I advise that you use BitTorrent to download it as it saves people bandwidth.

“Novell will be launching a community-based Linux distribution, OpenSuSE, at next week’s LinuxWorld in San Francisco, according to sources close to the company.
Following in the footsteps of Red Hat Inc. with its successful Fedora Project Linux distribution, Novell Inc. will be opening up its Linux development efforts with OpenSuSE, sources said.”
I REALLY hope these reports are correct, SUSE Linux is already a GREAT Linux distribution, but it really needs a good community around it, which it, sadly, hasn’t had for years. I’m really happy about Novell opening it up in a similar way, to what Red Hat has been doing with Fedora. I think being open and free (as in freedom) will help SUSE Linux improve in a lot of ways. Wireless management needs some serious work, the tools for doing that in the current release aren’t really that great compared to the competition from Mandriva Linux 2005 LE, which always has been open to the public and developed with a public open source community.
I think this recent development, will make for a better SUSE Linux, and a better SUSE Linux community.
