“The KDE Project today announced the immediate availability of KDE 3.4.2, a maintenance release for the latest generation of the most advanced and powerful free desktop for GNU/Linux and other UNIXes.”
Always nice to have bugs fixed, right? I always run the lastest and greatest KDE, not just because I want the latest and greatest, but also because in newer versions old bugs are sure to be fixed.
If you’re using KDE you may want to consider this new version, just be “fresh” on thigs!

“Spread Firefox is reporting that Mozilla Firefox has been downloaded 75,000,000 times. The 75 millionth download came at 11:17:10am UTC/GMT today. The download count does not include upgrades obtained using Firefox’s in-built software update system.”
Woh, 75 million, that’s a lot of downloads I tell ya. But that just, once again, proves how good a browser Firefox is.
People expect the 100 millionth download of Firefox to happend during October this year, I can’t wait for that one!

“The KDE Project today announced the immediate release of KOffice 1.4.1 for Linux and Unix operating systems. Among various bugfixes and improvements, the KOffice 1.4.1 release further improves support for the OASIS OpenDocument file.”
I really look forward to they day when both OpenOffice and KOffce use the same file format as their default format. The OASIS OpenDocument standard is a great file format for saving office documents, I strongly encourage anyone to use it, as it secures the future of the document you are saving, by being open and free for anyone to support.

“This is the official site for Windows Vista that was recently launched along-side the announcement of the final name.”
Damn, like “Longhorn” or “eXPedition” wasn’t bad enough, but “Windows Vista”, that’s probably the dumbest name Micro$oft has ever come up with. Micro$oft needs to watch out that the guys behind altavista.com, Overture Services, Inc,, doesn’t sue them for the name “Vista”. Amyway, BIll, your new baby’s new suck the big one, GET OVER IT!!!

“The Education Ministry has signed an 18-month software licensing deal with Novell New Zealand, the ministry’s first deal to provide open source software to schools.”
This is so great, I’d really wish danish government would make such a deal, with Novell Denmark, so that we can get rid of Windows machines that can barely start up!
Wise decision by the New Zealand government!
Some analysts say that Linux aren’t ready for the desktop. Well it’s things like this that directly say that they are so wrong!

“Mozilla Firefox 1.0.6 has been released. As we reported previously, API changes in last week’s Firefox 1.0.5 broke some extensions. This version should resolve the problems.”
“Just days after the release of Mozilla Thunderbird 1.0.5, Thunderbird 1.0.6 is now available for download. This latest version should resolve the extension problems that were accidentally introduced in Thunderbird 1.0.5. In particular, the popular Enigmail PGP add-on should now work correctly.”
Let’s hope they won’t have to do another HOTFIX release next week!
The API bug in 1.0.5 was a stupid error, seriously, stuff like that needs to be found during beta testing!! But what the heck Firefox is a great browser, so I’ll get over it quickly!
By the way, in case your business is using Windows 2000, kick IE’s butt and get Firefox! As you might know, Internet Explorer 7 won’t support Windows 2000, which I think is Micro$uck shooting themselves in the foot.
UPDATE:
If you use SUSE Linux, you can get updated RPMs for Mozilla Firefox & Thunderbird 1.0.6 at ftp.suse.com.

“Debian has now made the transition to the X.org installation of the X11 Window system. If you’re running sid/etch you should be able to upgrade now.
The transition had previously been on hold until Sarge was released – as it was judged too major a change to add to the release at the last minute.
Now Sarge is out Debian development continues and one of the most anticipated changes is upon us. (Other changes are also occurring such as the C++ ABI upgrade).”
About time the Debian guys switched up!
When I tried Debian Sarge out, a little over a month ago, I was actually a little disappointed to see that they didn’t include Xorg, mainly because a lot of Debian derivatives was already using Xorg, and also because Debian Sarge had been in development for almost three years. But better late than never, right? The Debian team has promised an annual release schedule, so we’ll probably see an official version of Debian with Xorg soon.
